Morning Blue Bird

I went outside to take pics of these deer...

But I got distracted by this cute little blue bird.

This is a good example of the difference between my old camera and my new one. With the old camera I would have gotten a pic that looked like this and there would have been very little data in the darkness of the bird. So if I lightened it I wouldn't see any more detail in the bird.

Now I can edit and get this - granted, the background might be a bit blown out which I could cut and fix with Photoshop but for a quick edit, I can see the brilliant blue in the bird and I get a little dreaminess too.

Testing Monochromatic Picture Control (Black & White)

*Since first posting this I got my computer to work again and noticed that the color is off in the black and whites I edited on Ryan's computer when I look at them on my computer. So the question is - which one is really how they look? Tell me which one looks better on your computer...

With my first camera - a film Nikon F-801 - which I used with B&W film to take that picture in 2005. Now I'm on my 3rd Nikon camera!

(Edited on my computer, tell me which one looks better.)

Testing ISO: Part 2

I purposely shot in high ISOs at the aquarium to see what it would look like. Granted, there are some other mediating factors, like glass in the way, slow shutter speeds, but overall, its nice to know that if I had to I could get a somewhat decent picture of something in a very dark environment without flash. I'm pretty impressed with the results.
