Honeymoon Day 2: Nassau, Bahamas

After a great buffet breakfast we disembarked into the town of Nassau, Bahamas.

The beautiful Atlantis hotel

A view of our ship from the harbor, sailing through on a water taxi to Paradise Island

Our tour guide talked very slow and very loud to be heard over the engine. We loved the accent in the Bahamas. Ryan can do a great impression! He pointed out all of the celebrities houses on Paradise Island as we passed by. Nicholas Cage and Tiger Woods have houses there to name a few.

Walking around the harbor at the Atlantis. Everywhere we went I had the camera bag and Ryan had his Ogio bag to carry towels, souvenirs, sunscreen, etc.

We found a boat for Mary Jane! Its not the biggest but we thought you'd love it.

Looking down into the aquarium

That bridge is called the Michael Jackson suite - it goes for $25,000 a night with a minimum 4 night stay

There's a water park in the hotel with a slide that goes down through a tube into the aquarium. We decided to stay in the free portions of the hotel though and marvel over the ornate decorations!

A look at the aquarium from the inside

A sign by the harbor at the Atlantis

This man made conch trumpets. They are SO loud! We were startled by them a few times that day. I also saw some Christmas tree ornaments made out of the pink inside - they were gorgeous. These were the most beautiful conchs I've ever seen and only $5. Unfortunately, we didn't think we could fit one in our suitcase.

I really liked Nassau because we got to see another culture. This is the native market, this is the widest aisle, most were only wide enough to barely walk through with Bahamian ladies plying their wares on every side very insistently. I wanted to take more pictures but was afraid to take my camera out and stop to take pictures back in the narrows. I thought they might grab me and hold me for ransom until I bought their knock off Prada purses and Rolex watches. This place reminded both Ryan and I of the Blue Shacks in Kenya. We bought a picture frame made with banana and other leaves that you might see some day if you come visit us!

Walking among the shops in town

We loved watching the taxi drivers play dominoes. They really get into it! Yelling and slamming the tiles down so hard its a wonder they don't crack. As soon as the game is over they are all friends again in an instant.

Enjoying a pina colada while listening to a street band

Isn't she a beauty?

Coming back home after a long hot day on the island was wonderful

Our stateroom - door behind me (see me in the mirror at the top left), closet to the left behind the vanity, bathroom to the right. All in all, close quarters. The comedian from night one said, "My stateroom saved my life, I fell out of the shower and straight onto the bed!"

Formal night complete with my dress from Tara's wedding and Ryan's new blazer

Our friends on the Disney cruiseline from afar

A moonlit stroll on the upper deck

The main entry hall on the ship (you'll see other views later)

Our evening dinners were in the Moonlight dining room. There was another one called the Starlight one floor above us.

Dinner started with an appetizer on the left and then the main course in the middle. You can click on the image for a larger view. All of the vegetarian options were marked with a "v" so it was easy to choose!

Our place settings. We never figured out what all the silverware was for because they took it away before we could use it all! By the third night, the waiter figured out we didn't wine so he never even put our wine glasses out.

Every evening after dinner we had some sort of show. The first night was a very funny comedian from the Tonight Show, this night was a dancing show called "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" featuring American popular music through the eras.

Our first little towel buddy! What do you think this is supposed to be, a dog?

Honeymoon Day 1: Welcome to the Majesty of the Seas

Monday morning began with continental breakfast and a shuttle ride to the airport for our flight which left before 10 AM. We were glad to leave our decorated car behind us and travel a little more incognito. Dad was not so lucky driving our car home from the hotel later that day.

We feel like airplane seats are getting smaller and smaller. Our seat partner was going on our cruise too!

Flying next to the Florida coast

Our trusty luggage

Riding in the bus to the cruise ship. The couple across the aisle was from San Francisco. Apparently they did not understand the art of self-portraiture.

Completing necessary paperwork

There she is!
The Majesty of Seas from the boarding bridge

Finally on board, I'm starting to feel relaxed. Wedding over, luggage on board, nothing to do but eat, sleep, enjoy the entertainment, and enjoy spending time with Ryan.

Miami is a really pretty city from the water. So many skyscrapers 360 degrees around you! The only city I've ever seen that has more is NYC. Almost every picture we took was a self-portrait, including this one taken by sitting the camera precariously on a piece of the ship.

Pool deck
There was soft serve ice cream here 24 hours a day!

FOOD, food, and more food!
This is the Windjammer marketplace where we ate most of our breakfast and lunch meals. The buffets were amazing! Special made omelets, crepes, and pasta, mexican bar, scones, veggie burgers, fresh pineapple... the list goes on.

Time for the lifeboat drill. We felt a little like Titanic, although we felt better when we found that we each had our own flashing light and whistle so we couldn't have to search for a cold frozen man in case of emergency.

Our stateroom, #2571. Its best feature was that it was close to the elevators except that it took so long for one to reach us in the basement that we often took the stairs. Its a great way to work off all that buffet food.

Do you see the red dot? That's where our stateroom was. I don't think we could have been any further down. Ryan said we were in the "servant's quarters." But we completely enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.

The first night featured the Love & Marriage game show. It was hilarious especially because of the couple on the right whose children and grandchildren were sitting next to us during the show. There were over 60 newlywed couples on the ship. (We weren't counted because we didn't know we were supposed to tell them! Apparently if we had, we would have gotten free stuff and a sign on our stateroom door... would that have been a good thing? We're not sure...)
Couple #1: Newlyweds of 3 days (who WON!)
Couple #2: Married 15 years
Couple #3: Married for 50 years

Fed and content, we enjoyed the sunset

The honeymoon begins!

So I know this is old news now but I thought you might want to see some pictures from our honeymoon!

We drove straight to a LaQuinta at the airport exit in Charlotte (after removing the cans from the back of our car since they were becoming a hazard flying off the back of the car at 65 mph on the highway!). We were starving so we sat down and ate to-go trays from the reception while watching Tiger play in the Masters.

Our suite had two rooms. And so began our acclimatization to king sized beds... lets just say ours looked much smaller when we came back home!
