Alaskan Cruise Days 2 & 3: A Tour of the Zaandam

First stop once onboard the ms. Zaandam - Lido Deck for a veggie burger. The first of many for them on this trip. I didn't eat one until my last day aboard!

Seattle is a great city - we fell in love with it!

The first of many pasta meals! So bright I can't hardly open one eye.

Local fishing boats

Seattle skyline - our hotel was by the Space Needle and we had walked all the way down to the stadiums (on the right side of Ryan & I) the night before.

2 or 3 of us could stand in the bathroom - gigantic! The hose on the left is the hairdryer that got too hot to hold Carrie says.

The Zaandam was christened in 2000 by Mary Kate & Ashley Olson.

The flags look festive for the guests arrival

We walked into a tour of the spa area and got to lay on these heated beds for free - later this would have cost over $100!

Lido deck - pool area - with the top open.

The ship had a music theme. These panels of music were on the stateroom floors. Many of the glass doors had music on them and musical instruments and paintings decorated the halls. My kind of ship!

The organ in the main lobby area. Small and made out of aluminum - Carrie said it sounded more like chimes when she heard it play.

Rotterdam dining room

The best library any of us had seen on a ship. Great selection of books and games to check out and nice places to read and play games. We spent a lot of time there.

Lido deck buffet! Carrie is standing by our friendly ice cream server Ellie. C & I liked the coconut ice cream best! Mom - you would have LOVED it!

Walking out on the windy deck while we're pulling away from Seattle through Prince William Sound and beyond.

Ryan's serves were quite powerful going with the wind. Ryan & Ryan played 3 hours straight of tennis toward the end of the week and fell on the slippery wet and windy deck several times!

We followed this Royal Caribbean ship the whole way to Juneau.

It was so windy Carrie's camera strap wouldn't stay on. Stay tuned on Facebook for a great video of us trying to stay standing up in the wind.

Relaxing in the library

****
The following are the only pics I took on Saturday - our day at sea - due to how puny I felt. Look at Carrie's pictures of how much our ship was going up and down in the rough seas! I felt horrible and so did most of the ship. It was so bad that they ran out of some kinds of dishes because of all of the room service going to sick people. They gave out LOTS of green apples to those feeling sick too - its supposed to help your stomach settle. Meclizine became my best friend.

Ryan & Carrie ordered room service.

Pasta primavera was our fall-back food when everything else wasn't good or wasn't vegetarian.

1/2 of Ryan's 2 mashed potato servings. It was funny to see how many people they thought were eating by how many silverware they brought us. Usually they brought us too many! You'll see more views of the room in later days when it was more put away.

Alaskan Cruise Day 1: To Seattle

We flew out of Tulsa Thursday, June 3 to Seattle, WA via Phoenix.
Here we are in the Phoenix airport - Ryan wanted to make sure to include the sports news of the day, the horrible call by the baseball umpire. It was good to see what good sports the umpire and the pitcher were though. All's well that ends well I think!

Phoenix was so dry looking! Made it very easy to find the golf courses.

Ryan got to see the Grand Canyon for the first time! Unfortunately he was up in an exit row and I was in the last row of the plane at a window so I couldn't share it with him. (I'm not a fan of Southwest's seating methods.)

So this is straight out of the camera...

This is color adjusted - a little too much but I think it shows the depth better eh?

Passing Mt. Rainier

Seattle from the air

Carrie met us at our gate! Then we lugged our bags onto the tram for a ride into downtown.

The Seahawks stadium next to Safeco field where we'd be at the Mariners game later that night.

We walked by the Space Needle on our way to Holiday Inn Express. We must have looked funny pulling our luggage and running across streets.

Luggage left behind - we took a walk to Pike's Place Market on our way to the baseball stadium.

Ryan said if we lived in Seattle he'd go buy me flowers at this market. They had gorgeous bouquets of mixed flowers for only $10-15!

Lots of seafood

We wanted to see them yelling and throwing fish but I think it was too late in the day.

Seattle has lots of hilly roads

Outside Safeco field

Great seats!!! Ryan stopped on the way to pick up a Ken Griffey, Jr. T-shirt. Ryan and Ryan were sad that this was the day after his retirement. They were hoping to see him play.

Beautiful ballpark

Ryan's fantasy pitcher - Pravano - warming up.

Most of the gang is here! All of the pictures with Witas are on Carrie's camera.

Look at this link - you can spot us in the left hand corner during the film from Jose Lopez's homerun at about 45 seconds through the video. Ryan is stretching his arm out pointing at it. You can see Carrie a little bit in a baseball cap and gray shirt when she stands up.

The famous garlic fries - great when you eat them but they don't settle on your stomach too well.

Yum!

It began to rain a little so they closed the roof. How neat! Then it was back to the hotel for one last e-mail check and then to bed before our cruise departure!

Spring babies

A few of the sites I will miss in Arkansas...

There are lots of these in the pastures on the way to Walmart and work. But there's one in my backyard too!

Ear scratch

I caught the momma bird! I'm pretty sure its a phoebe.

Characteristic tail wagging

This bird was with it - a male?

Hello babies! They know to be quiet when I'm around.

So cute!

I got a stool - they still stayed quiet and the mother bird didn't try to kill me. I count 4?
